From the District Chair
November 2009 Newsletter #1
November 11, 2009
Dear West OK NFL:
Sorry it has taken me to
long to get a contact with you going, but I figured you could use the rest!
Now that those of us who do one-act have that behind us, and the
tournament season has really and truly begun, please find the time to read the
following items:
1)
Dates
and places: The West OK NFL District
contest will be held March 4,5,6, 2010 at the University of Oklahoma.
We will probably be headquartered in the OU Union building again.
I think the days of our using the south campus only are a thing of the
past. The West OK District Congress
will be held Saturday, April 10, at Bishop McGuiness High School in OKC, Clerk
Jana Harrison of Edmond North presiding. In
January, I will send you specifics about due dates for entering both these
contests and sending bills to Jana for Congress.
2)
Congress changes:
there were many of these which came down from the national level.
I have read them briefly in the Rostrum, but have not
studied them. More reports on
this in the future.
3)
Technology:
District tournaments are being required to be run on Joy of Tournaments.
We may be allowed to run ours the old way for the last time this year,
while committee members study the Joy of Tournaments setup to use for 2011.
Onward and upward!
4)
Points/national dues:
Please pay your national dues of $99 if you have not already done so.
This is mandatory for being an active NFL Chapter or Affiliate, and will
determine if your students are eligible to compete at districts.
Please update your points on a regular basis.
This is easy to do online (nflonline.org), even for Luddites such as I.
If you are a chapter/affiliate in good standing, you can fill out the
“Licensing Agreement” and receive free DVD copies of the Interp event finals
from last year’s nationals. Great
stuff!
5)
District dues:
Please let me know when you have done preliminary Purchase Orders or
whatever you need to do to keep your financial people happy.
Basic dues are $50 for all chapters and affiliates, and $25 each more for
every 25-person increment of memberships/degrees.
Let me know when you are ready for me to send you a personalized bill.
Remember, these dues are expended totally in payments to judges and in
the coaching award we give. We carry
no balance from year to year.
6)
This year at Districts and Congress
we will be instating a change: any
competitors will be required to have with them for all 3 days of the tournament
a certified teacher from their school district.
This brings us in line with the OSSAA chaperone requirements.
Please start making your plans concerning this now.
That’s all for now, folks! Hope
your year is off to a great start. Don’t
hesitate to contact me (e-mail is best) if you need further information!
Cheers, Betsy Ballard, Norman High, West OK District Chair
